02

What it treats

The Hair Reduction SolutionRx is prescribed for the treatment of:

  • Unwanted facial hair growth in women
  • Hormonal facial hair associated with PCOS, perimenopause, menopause, and other endocrine causes
  • Genetic facial hair growth on the upper lip, chin, jawline, or sideburn areas
  • Slowing the rate of facial hair regrowth between removal sessions
  • Reducing dependence on shaving, waxing, threading, or plucking

Your dermatology provider has determined this formulation is appropriate for your specific skin based on the assessment you completed.

Do not use The Hair Reduction SolutionRx if any of the following apply to you. If your situation changes after your assessment, contact your DermClick care team before continuing use.

  • You have a known allergy or sensitivity to eflornithine, niacinamide, Centella asiatica, ceramides, or any other listed ingredient
  • You are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or nursing, so confirm timing with your dermatology provider before starting

04

Warnings and precautions

Pregnancy and nursing

Topical eflornithine has a limited pregnancy safety profile. Do not start this treatment during pregnancy or while nursing without explicit guidance from your dermatology provider. If your pregnancy status changes during treatment, contact your DermClick care team immediately so your prescription can be adjusted.

Existing hair removal methods

The Hair Reduction SolutionRx slows new hair growth and does not remove existing hair. You will likely continue your usual removal method (shaving, waxing, threading, lasering) during treatment. Do not apply the topical immediately after waxing, threading, or laser hair removal. Wait at least 5 minutes after removal and avoid application for 24 to 48 hours if your skin is irritated. Your dermatology provider will cover specifics during your assessment.

Application site reactions

Mild stinging, tingling, dryness, or redness at the application site is common, especially during the first 2 to 4 weeks. If reactions persist or worsen, contact your DermClick care team, as your application frequency or formula can be adjusted.

Realistic expectations

Hair reduction is gradual. Meaningful change typically develops over 6 to 12 weeks of consistent daily use. If you do not see results by 4 months of consistent use, contact your DermClick care team for assessment.

Discontinuation

Hair growth typically returns to its previous rate when treatment is discontinued. The Hair Reduction SolutionRx is designed for ongoing daily use, with adjustments over time as your dermatology provider directs.

Eye, lip, and nostril contact

Avoid contact with eyes, lips, the corners of the nose, and any mucous membranes. If contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with cool water.

Sun sensitivity

Daily broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher is recommended for all DermClick patients. Treated areas may be slightly more sensitive to sun.

Drug interactions

Tell your dermatology provider about any prescription or over-the-counter medications you use, especially:

  • Other topical prescription treatments applied to the same area, including retinoids, antibiotics, or brightening agents
  • Topical alpha-hydroxy or beta-hydroxy acids at high concentrations
  • Benzoyl peroxide products applied to the same area
  • Topical or oral corticosteroids in the application area

05

Possible side effects

Common side effects

These may happen especially in the first 2 to 4 weeks of treatment.

  • Mild stinging, tingling, or burning at the application site
  • Temporary dryness or flaking
  • Mild redness in treated areas
  • Folliculitis, or small bumps around hair follicles
  • Mild itching

Less common side effects

  • Persistent dryness or peeling beyond the adjustment period
  • Contact dermatitis or allergic reaction at the application site
  • Acne breakouts in treated areas
  • Ingrown hairs
  • Mild rash at the application site

These are typical of topical eflornithine treatment and usually settle within the first 2 to 4 weeks. Your DermClick care team can adjust your application frequency or your formula if these symptoms become uncomfortable.

Rare but serious

Contact your DermClick care team or seek emergency care if you experience:

  • Severe rash, hives, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Signs of severe allergic reaction
  • Severe blistering or skin sloughing at the application site

06

How to use it

Application

Apply a thin layer to clean, dry skin on the treated area twice daily, typically morning and evening. Use a small amount and rub in gently until absorbed. Do not wash the treated area for at least 4 hours after application.

Frequency

Twice daily, with applications at least 8 hours apart. Consistency matters more than amount, as the effect builds with regular use.

Amount

A small drop or pea-sized amount is enough for one area, such as the upper lip, chin, or jawline. More is not better.

Layering with hair removal

Continue your usual hair removal method during treatment. Apply The Hair Reduction Solution at least 5 minutes after shaving or 24 hours after waxing or threading. For laser hair removal, your dermatology provider will set timing.

Storage

Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep the cap closed when not in use. Do not freeze.

Shelf life

Use within the period indicated on your prescription label. Do not use after the expiration date.

Morning

Gentle cleanser, then The Hair Reduction SolutionRx on treated area, then moisturizer, then broad-spectrum SPF 30+

Evening

Gentle cleanser, then The Hair Reduction SolutionRx on treated area, then a barrier-supporting, fragrance-free moisturizer.

07

About compounded medications

Compounded medications are prepared by a licensed compounding pharmacy for individual patients, based on a prescription written by a licensed dermatology provider. They are not individually evaluated or approved by the FDA.

The Hair Reduction SolutionRxis a compounded prescription medication containing eflornithine, an ingredient used in prescription care for unwanted facial hair. Compounding allows your dermatology provider to combine it with barrier-supporting ingredients - niacinamide, ceramides, and Centella asiatica - in a single formulation, rather than asking you to layer multiple separate products on top of treated areas. The supporting ingredients aren't optional extras - they are what makes twice-daily application livable on facial skin.

Your prescription is compounded by a 503A licensed compounding pharmacy and shipped directly to you.
