- Rosacea with inflammatory acne-like papules and pustules
- Rosacea-acne overlap - skin that is simultaneously red, sensitive, and breaking out

Who should not use it
Do not use this medication if any of the following apply to you. If your situation changes after your assessment, contact your DermClick care team before continuing use.
- You are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or nursing - sulfacetamide sodium is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding
- You have a known allergy or sensitivity to sulfonamide medications (sulfa allergy) - this includes sulfacetamide sodium
- You have a known allergy or sensitivity to sulfur, Centella asiatica, ceramides, or any other listed ingredient
- You have a severe or active skin infection, open wounds, or severely eczematous skin in the application area
- You have a history of kidney disease - sulfacetamide sodium is renally excreted; consult your care team

04
Warnings and precautions
Sulfa allergy
Sulfacetamide sodium is part of the sulfonamide (sulfa) drug family. If you have a documented allergy to sulfa medications - including sulfonamide antibiotics - do not use this product. A board-certified dermatologist on your care team will screen for this during your assessment. Cross-reactivity with sulfur (a separate ingredient) is uncommon but should be disclosed during your assessment.
Pregnancy and nursing
Sulfacetamide sodium is not recommended during pregnancy or nursing. If your pregnancy status changes during treatment, contact your DermClick care team immediately to adjust your prescription.
Sulfur odor
Sulfur has a faint but distinctive smell. This smell rinses away and does not linger on the skin after washing. Most patients stop noticing it within the first few uses. The smell does not indicate a problem with the formula.
Contact time matters
The Clarifying Rosacea FormulaRx is a foaming wash, not a leave-on treatment. To work effectively, it must have brief contact time with the skin before rinsing. Lather onto damp skin, leave on briefly while you finish cleansing, then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. Do not use as a leave-on product.
Avoid harsh layering
Do not use other foaming acne washes, astringent toners, high-strength salicylic acid cleansers, or benzoyl peroxide products in the same cleansing step. These can increase dryness and irritation without improving results. If you are using a leave-on rosacea treatment, apply it on dry skin after rinsing - not in the same step as the cleanser.
Sun sensitivity
Rosacea-prone skin is inherently sensitive to UV exposure, and the ingredients in this formula can increase that sensitivity. Daily broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher is essential - apply every morning, every day, including cloudy days.
Eye, lip, and nostril contact
Avoid contact with eyes, lips, the corners of the nose, and any mucous membranes. If contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with cool water immediately.
Waxing and laser treatments
Pause use for at least one week before and after waxing, laser treatments, or chemical peels in the application area. Consult your DermClick care team before any procedure.
Drug interactions
Tell your care team about any prescription or over-the-counter medications you use, especially:
- Other sulfonamide medications - risk of additive effects
- Silver-containing products - sulfacetamide sodium can react with silver to cause discoloration
- Other topical antibiotics or acne treatments in the same application area
- Topical corticosteroids in the same area - may mask signs of infection
05
Possible side effects
Common side effects
These may happen especially in the first 1 to 2 weeks of use.
- Mild dryness or tightness at the application site after rinsing
- Mild tingling or temporary sensitivity during application
- Sulfur odor during application - fades completely after rinsing
- Mild temporary redness immediately after cleansing
Less common side effects
- Persistent dryness or sensitivity beyond the adjustment period
- Contact dermatitis or allergic reaction at the application site
- Skin discoloration - rare, more likely if silver-containing products are used in the same area
- Mild localized burning or itching beyond the first few uses
These are typical of sulfur-based prescription cleanser use and usually settle within the first two weeks. Your DermClick care team can adjust your application frequency or formula if these symptoms become uncomfortable.
Rare but serious
Contact your DermClick care team or seek emergency care if you experience:
- Severe rash, hives, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
- Difficulty breathing
- Signs of severe allergic reaction - sulfa allergies can be serious; stop use immediately
- Severe blistering or skin sloughing at the application site
06
How to use it
Application
Apply a small amount to damp skin in the morning and evening. Lather gently onto the face, leave on briefly while finishing your routine, then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. Pat dry. Do not scrub - gentle application is important for rosacea-prone skin.
Frequency
Use twice daily - morning and evening - as your daily foaming wash. If your skin is particularly reactive in the first week, you may start with once daily and increase to twice daily as tolerated. Your DermClick care team will advise on your ramp-up if needed.
Amount
A small amount - roughly the size of a nickel - is sufficient to lather across the face. More is not better; excess product does not improve results and may increase dryness.
Contact time
Leave the lather on the skin for approximately 10 to 30 seconds before rinsing. Do not leave on for extended periods or use as a leave-on treatment. The contact time during cleansing is what allows the active ingredients to work.
Storage
Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep the cap closed when not in use. Do not freeze.
Shelf life
Use within the period indicated on your prescription label. Do not use after the expiration date.
Morning
The Clarifying Rosacea FormulaRx, fragrance-free moisturizer, broad-spectrum SPF 30+.
Evening
The Clarifying Rosacea FormulaRx, dry skin, leave-on rosacea treatment (if prescribed), fragrance-free moisturizer.
What to pause: Other foaming acne cleansers, astringent toners, high-strength salicylic acid washes, benzoyl peroxide cleansers, and physical scrubs. These can stack irritation without improving results. A board-certified dermatologist on your care team will review your full routine during your assessment.
07
If you have a reaction
For mild irritation
Reduce to once-daily use, apply a fragrance-free, barrier-supporting moisturizer after rinsing, and message your DermClick care team. We can adjust your formula or usage protocol.
For moderate to severe reactions
Stop using the medication. Message your DermClick care team. Send photos if you can - a board-certified dermatologist on your care team will review and respond.
For signs of sulfa allergy or medical emergencies
Severe rash, hives, swelling of the face or throat, difficulty breathing, or any signs of severe allergic reaction: Call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room immediately. Sulfa allergies can be serious.

About compounded medications
Compounded medications are prepared by a licensed compounding pharmacy for individual patients, based on a prescription written by a board-certified dermatologist. They are not individually evaluated or approved by the FDA.
The active ingredients in The Clarifying Rosacea FormulaRx - sulfacetamide sodium and sulfur - have been used in clinical dermatology for the rosacea-acne overlap for decades. The combination is well-established in dermatology practice for patients whose skin is simultaneously red, sensitive, and breaking out - a profile that most standard acne treatments worsen. Centella asiatica and ceramides are included to support the skin barrier during twice-daily cleansing, reducing the dryness and reactivity that most prescription cleansers cause. Compounding allows a board-certified dermatologist on your care team to configure the concentration, vehicle, and supporting ingredients specifically for your rosacea-acne presentation, rather than a one-size-fits-all formula.
Your prescription is compounded by a 503A licensed compounding pharmacy and shipped directly to you.
