Warnings and precautions
Sun sensitivity
Tretinoin makes your skin more sensitive to sunlight, and sun exposure is the single fastest way to undo progress on fine lines and photoaging. Apply broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher every morning, and avoid prolonged sun exposure, tanning beds, and sun lamps. Daily SPF is non-negotiable during treatment.
Pregnancy and nursing
Tretinoin is contraindicated during pregnancy and not recommended while breastfeeding. If any of these become true during your treatment, stop using the medication immediately and contact your DermClick care team.
Eye, lip, and nostril contact
Avoid contact with eyes, lips, the corners of the nose, and any mucous membranes. If contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with cool water.
Waxing and laser treatments
Do not wax, undergo laser treatments, or use chemical peels on areas where you apply this medication. Pause use for at least one week before and after any such procedure, and consult your DermClick care team.
Drug interactions
Tell your dermatology provider about any prescription or over-the-counter medications you use, especially:
- Other topical retinoids, including additional tretinoin, adapalene, tazarotene, or retinol
- Benzoyl peroxide products, which can be used at separate times of day and can degrade tretinoin if layered
- Salicylic acid or glycolic acid exfoliants at high concentrations
- Vitamin C serums, which can be used in the morning but are not recommended layered at night
- Hormonal medications

Possible side effects
Common side effects
These may happen especially in the first 2 to 6 weeks of treatment.
- Mild dryness, flaking, or peeling
- Temporary redness or mild irritation
- Mild burning or stinging when first applied
- Increased sensitivity to sun
- Temporary sensitivity to skincare products you previously tolerated
Less common side effects
- Significant or persistent redness, swelling, or itching
- Severe peeling or barrier disruption
- Worsening or persistent burning sensation
- Skin discoloration
These are typical of prescription retinoid treatment and usually settle within the first 4 to 6 weeks as your skin adjusts. The ceramides and Centella asiatica in the formula are included specifically to manage this phase. Your DermClick care team can adjust your application frequency or your formula if these symptoms become uncomfortable.
Rare but serious
Contact your DermClick care team or seek emergency care if you experience:
- Severe rash, hives, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
- Difficulty breathing
- Signs of severe allergic reaction
- Severe blistering, crusting, or skin sloughing at the application site
06
How to use it
Application
Apply a thin layer to clean, dry skin on the affected area at night, after washing your face and patting it dry. Wait 20 to 30 minutes after washing before applying to reduce irritation, which matters with tretinoin.
Frequency
Start with every other night for the first 2 weeks. Increase to nightly as your skin tolerates it. Your DermClick care team will adjust your ramp-up plan based on how your skin responds.
Amount
A pea-sized amount is enough for the entire face. More is not better and will cause irritation without improving results.
Storage
Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep the cap closed when not in use. Do not freeze. Tretinoin degrades with light and air exposure, so store accordingly.
Shelf life
Use within the period indicated on your prescription label. Do not use after the expiration date.
Morning
Gentle cleanser, vitamin C serum (optional, supports anti-aging synergy), moisturizer, broad-spectrum SPF 30+
Evening
Gentle cleanser, then The Anti-Aging SolutionRx, then a barrier-supporting moisturizer.
07
If you have a reaction
For mild irritation
Reduce application frequency to every third night, apply a barrier-supporting moisturizer 15 minutes after the medication, and message your DermClick care team. We can adjust your formula or your ramp-up plan.
For moderate to severe reactions
Stop using the medication. Message your DermClick care team. Send photos if you can so your dermatology provider can review and respond.
For medical emergencies
For severe rash, swelling of the face or throat, difficulty breathing, or signs of severe allergic reaction, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room immediately.

About compounded medications
Compounded medications are prepared by a licensed compounding pharmacy for individual patients, based on a prescription written by a licensed dermatology provider. They are not individually evaluated or approved by the FDA.
The active ingredients in The Anti-Aging SolutionRx- tretinoin, niacinamide, Centella asiatica, and ceramides - are well-established ingredients used in clinical dermatology. Compounding allows your dermatology provider to combine them into a single formulation tailored to your skin, rather than asking you to layer a prescription retinoid, a barrier serum, a soothing serum, and a ceramide cream on top of each other. The supporting ingredients aren't optional extras - they are what makes the retinoid sustainable.
Your prescription is compounded by a 503A licensed compounding pharmacy and shipped directly to you.
