No — and the dermatologist reviewing your case will say so directly during the case review. Stacking a prescription DermClick formula on top of another retinoid product (Differin, an over-the-counter retinol, an existing Curology custom formula) is the most common cause of unnecessary irritation, barrier disruption, and "I had to stop because my skin couldn't take it" outcomes.
- Other retinoid products (Differin, retinol, retinaldehyde, prescription tretinoin from another source, Curology with a retinoid component): pause once your DermClick formula arrives. The retinoid in your DermClick formula replaces, not adds to, what you were using.
- Salicylic acid and BHA cleansers, AHAs, glycolic acid toners (Paula's Choice 2% BHA, The Ordinary Mandelic Acid, etc.): typically pause for the first four to six weeks while your skin adjusts to the prescription. The dermatologist on your case may add them back later if useful.
- Benzoyl peroxide (CeraVe BPO, PanOxyl, La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo): pause if your formula contains tretinoin, or use them at different times of day per the dermatologist's instruction. BPO and tretinoin can interact when applied together at full strength.
- Cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen (gentle, non-active products): keep them. A non-foaming gentle cleanser, a barrier moisturizer, and a daily SPF 30 or higher are part of the protocol, not in conflict with it.
The dermatologist reviewing your case will give you an explicit keep / pause / stop list when your prescription is finalized. If you're unsure, message the team before you start layering.
