Sometimes — and the dermatologist on your case will tell you honestly which side of the line your case falls on.

  • Mild to moderate hormonal acne (premenstrual flares, jawline and lower-face distribution, papules without deep cysts) often responds well to a compounded topical formula. This is well within the scope of what DermClick prescribes, and most patients in this category are matched to The Acne Solution or The Advanced Acne Solution depending on severity.
  • Moderate to severe hormonal acne with deep cysts and scarring risk often needs oral medicationtypically spironolactone for adult women, or in some cases combined oral contraceptives or, for severe nodulocystic cases, isotretinoin. These oral medications are outside the current DermClick scope. If your case fits this pattern, the dermatologist on your case will tell you, and may recommend an in-person evaluation with a local dermatologist for the oral protocol.

A topical compounded formula can do a lot for hormonal acne — but it cannot replace the systemic medications some cases need. The right care for your skin is not always the care DermClick sells, and the dermatologist reviewing your case will tell you when that's true.
